Coal Creak Falls

Towards the end of my Polytech year on the West Coast in 2005; Sandy, Sammy and myself walked into Cold Creak Falls in Rununga after a bit of rain. At low flows there is a nasty tree stump that is stuck in the falls, however on this particular day, running high, we had no worries.

Sweet as!!

One Sunday Afternoon

I can remember in Seventh Form (2004) going on retreat to Glentui. In the afternoon we were given some spare time so a bunch of us headed up the river to see what we could find. I remembered a couple of drops from that day, nothing special but still enough to have a bit of fun of a Sunday afternoon.

Water levels were low, but this is what we found:

A Gentlemens Journey

A number of years ago I suggested to Rob that I take him up to the Abel Tasman National Park to go sea kayaking. A few years later we headed up there to mix it up and check it out.

The plan was to depart Kaiteriteri on Saturday and head for Bark Bay, then from Bark Bay, on Sunday, head up to Awaroa, then back to Anchorange for the last night, Monday. However, due to some unforeseen circumstances (a bit of wind and chop) we only made it to Anchorange on the first day and an executive decision was then made by the financier of the trip to spend the next couple of nights (Saturday and Sunday) at Anchorage, essentially cutting our third night out of the equation.

After a good first night of kip we headed up to Tonga Island to check out the seals and the marine reserve. This [lunch included] would have to be my highlight of the trip.

We had some great weather over the three days and the trip provided Rob with an excellent introduction to sea kayaking.

Here are some photos that tell our story:
