A Cold One But a Goodie

With winter on the way and a big snow dump not far off we decided to head into the Taipo to check out how things roll up there, below Mid Taipo Hut. There was a right rigmarole in getting to the Hut and Dando, our shuttle driver, had his work cut out for about five and a half hours.

Eventually our group Ian, Mat, American Pat and myself got to the Mid Taipo hut and made our way downwards to meet up with the other members of our crew who where getting dropped off a little bit below us.

In this section there are two main drops that provide a bit of fun. We had a look at them just to make sure we had our lines sussed. In the upper lower section the water was still a beautiful clear colour and the recent rain obviously had not affected this catchment. However when we reached the braided section above the last gorge the water was a greyie colour which had some juice to it. There were no real moves to make on this section, it was just a case of enjoying the hydroslide and the occasional hole. The group pushed it a bit to get off the water early and that we did! When we got to the take out the stretch of the legs and the freedom of walking was indeed aided by few swigs of port that Ross put on for the boys.

The photos tell the tale. This trip is also the motivating factor for me to have a look at the camera market and upgrade to an SLR. The waterproof girl is great for water shots but not quick enough or technical enough for the bank shots.
